Why do we need a privacy policy?

Our privacy policy is designed to balance the protection of the privacy of our users with the needs of our web site's operation. Our users' privacy is important to us, as our web site helps us to service members of our spiritual community.

What information do we collect?

We collect information from you when you register on our site, subscribe to our newsletter or fill out a form.

When ordering or registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter your: name, gender, e-mail address, mailing address and/or phone number.

We also collect IP information by means of access to this web site, and we correlate this information back to a general location.

We collect certain information through the Facebook API, at the user's option.

What do we use your information for?

We collect names so that the user experience is personalized, as well as for records of progress through the training offered on our site.

Birthdate information is collected with the intent of validating identity at a later time, as well as helping to assure that users are age-appropriate and able to complete some aspects of training.

We collect gender data in order to complete a demographic profile of our site's users, and to allow us to see where the needs are most likely to be. This also permits us to create a web site deployment strategy based on data, rather than guesswork.

We collect location information as a means of assisting in the healthy development of a social environment; and will coordinate meeting between people in order to promote social health.

Email addresses may be used to send you information, respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions.

We utilize IP information from all visitors in order to understand the type, location, and interests of those who connect to our site, in order to make it a more enjoyable place. We also utilize this information to enhance site security, prevent unauthorized access to private user information, and generally to assure that those who are connecting to our site are not compromised by data collection or attack programs ("bots").

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one or more of the following ways:

  • To personalize your experience (your information helps us to better respond to your individual needs)
  • To improve our website (we continually strive to improve our website offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you)

How do we protect your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you enter, submit, or access your personal information.

We do offer the use of a secure server through checkout services with PayPal, Google Checkout, and other similar payment gateways. All supplied sensitive/credit information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to these services, and are not to be only accessed by any other party, other than those authorized with special access rights to our accounts with these providers, and are required to keep the information confidential.

After a transaction, your private information (credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) will not be stored on our servers. This information is only accessible to us at a level which is necessary to carry out the transaction and for reporting and taxation purposes to the Internal Revenue Service and to any validated auditing effort which shows a valid need to access it (e.g., police, government, etc.).

Facebook is used as a method of confirming identity for each account, as well as for the convenience of our users.

 

Do we use cookies?

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Do we disclose any information to police or government agencies?

We do comply with the legal and valid requests from investigative bodies of police and government agencies, provided a compelling need has been expressed. All law enforcement inquiries will require a subpoena or a warrant which is valid within the United States, duly executed and served, before cooperation will be granted in any civil or criminal investigation involving any individual user or group of users on our site. In protecting the privacy of our users, we practice the maximum extent of protection which is afforded under the rule of law.

Government agencies and police who request information through us, who are outside of the United States and its jurisdiction, should be kept apprised that our cooperation will be limited to activities which are linked to one individual, and that a clear and presentable rationale must be offered before any cooperation is given.

All users who are under investigation by any authority will be notified immediately of such activities, unless an expressed rationale which supports the need for our silence is offered. In cases where an investigation is publicized, there is no compelling need for our silence.

Third party links

Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third party products or services on our website. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.

California Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

Because we value your privacy we have taken the necessary precautions to be in compliance with the California Online Privacy Protection Act. We therefore will not distribute your personal information to outside parties without your consent. Note that in this matter we are not required by Utah State law to be in compliance with a California State law; this compliance is voluntary as a means of assuring privacy.

As part of the California Online Privacy Protection Act, all users of our site may make any changes to their information at anytime by logging into their control panel and going to the ''Edit Profile'' page. We also offer alternate profiles which mask certain parts of information from the general public.

Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

We are in compliance with the requirements of COPPA (Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act), we do not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. Our website, products and services are all directed to people who are at least 13 years old or older.

Additional Considerations for Training Minors

The minimum age to begin clerical training through our website is 16 years of age. Social interaction is permitted at a lower age, with site administration approval.

All training up to the Padawan level is public and does not require parental consent. However, due to the esoteric and spiritual nature of our subject matter, those who are under 18 years of age will require parental consent in writing before continuance of the training. Certain parts of training may also be undesirable to parents, who are legally entitled to make such choices for their children.

This online privacy policy applies only to information collected through our website, or by direct connections to it, and not to information collected through any other means.
