Welcome to the Jedi School donation shop. There's one question which seems to be being asked of late:
Why Are We Asking For Money?
The truth is, we can't operate this web site without about $200 in donations every year. This just covers the cost of the web site and legal paperwork which allows us to operate at a very minimal level. And while we're allowed to count the monetary value of donations that aren't money, we need the actual cash--the government requires cashflow for quite a number of things.
In addition, any surplus over the amount we need in order to just keep running goes to our charitable relief programs, which right now are limited to North America in scope. If we happened to get more than $2000, we could actually afford to send aid to people in Australia, Canada, the EU, the UK, and other developed countries. At $5000 each year, we could afford to send assistance where it's really needed: countries like Japan and Haiti, which are still rebuilding after their devastating earthquakes.

The bottom line is, we just can't operate without cash, the way a lot of places used to. As a far-flung group of religious adherents, our society must work as individuals who move as a singular unit (or at least, mostly). The internet makes this possible, but we need a way to get more people involved who are interested. If you have ideas, we're open to hearing them! Post some in the forums.
